Sodwana Bay Charters has been operating in Sodwana Bay for the past 13 years. We offer exclusive deep sea fishing charters on our executive boat Durable. She is a 28 foot (9 m) Nova Cat equipped with state of the art fishing gear, lures and equipment. The boat has onboard ablutions, which makes it the ideal fishing vessel for the serious deep sea angler, competition angler and the whole family. Durable is powered by two 175 HP – Evinrude E-Tec outboard motors. Durable is the biggest boat in operation in Sodwana Bay and is registered with The iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority as a deep sea fishing concessionaire.
We offer game fish charters, marlin charters and sailfish charters. We encourage sustainable recreational fishing by promoting responsible catch-and-release practices. We are furthermore actively involved in shark conservation and educate anglers on the safe and live release of sharks caught on lures and baits. Follie Janse van Vuuren is the skipper active at the helm of Durable.
Sodwana Bay Charters is situated in the Sodwana Bay Village. We offer luxury, self-catering accommodation in four guest houses. All accommodation is en-suite, air conditioned, serviced and fully appointed to give you the most comfortable accommodation Sodwana Bay has to offer. Catered accommodation can be arranged on request.
Tombi Deep Sea Fishing Charters
Tombi Deep Sea Fishing Charters is run by Themba Ndlovu, the only local Black charter operator in Sodwana Bay and the first Black run recreational fishing charter operator in South Africa. Tombi Charters is supported and backed by Sodwana Bay Charters and is registered as a fishing concessionaire with the iSimangaliso Wetland Authority. Tombi Charters offers speciality game fish charters on a 19.6 Yeld Cat, Durable II and can be rigged for marlin and sailfish charters. Themba is a specialist in live bait rigging, skip bait rigging and dead bait rigging. Themba has been involved with Sodwana Bay Charters since 2000 and is well respected in Sodwana Bay for his operational abilities. Wayne Schick is the skipper at the helm of Durable II.

Follie Janse van Vuuren
Follie is a highly rated skipper with over 10 000 hours at the helm of various boats. He has been the main skipper on Durable since January 2006 and he has over 5000 hours at her helm. Follie has been fishing these waters since his father, “Jan Couda” started coming to Sodwana Bay almost 35 years ago.
Follie has skippered one boat to victory and two boats to second place in the last three sailfish nationals, held at Sodwana Bay.
Wayne must be the most experienced boat skipper in Sodwana Bay. He has skippered dive- and fishing boats all his life and was the owner of one of the first dive operators in Sodwana Bay. No one knows the reefs at Sodwana Bay as well as Wayne does. Wayne is a specialist game fish angler and a keen rock and surf angler. You will often find him fishing in the bay before sunrise, before taking clients out on Durable II.
Peter has been involved with Sodwana Charters since 2005. Peter is actively involved in running the deep sea fishing operations of Sodwana Bay Charters and Tombi Charters. Peter has been at the helm of both Durable and Durable II since 2005 and has been an active skipper since 2000. Peter is actively involved in the conservation of sharks caught by anglers and is in the process of publishing guidelines in the successful release of sharks caught by recreational anglers.
Peter is also an experienced dive master with more than 1000 dives under his weight belt. He knows the reefs off Sodwana Bay and southern Mozambique intimately. He specializes in underwater photography
