Sodwana Bay is a marine reserve and one of the busiest fishing destinations on the Kwa-Zulu Natal coast.
Fishing in a marine reserve is therefore restricted to pelagic or ocean roaming game fish and bill fish. (Blue– and black marlin, sailfish, king mackerel, barracuda, Dorado’s, kingfish, prodigal son, etc).
No accurate data is available on catches made off the Sodwana coastline and no official tag-and-release program is in operation. With our program, we hope to offer the first official tag-and-release deep sea fishing charter in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.
Full training will be provided on all aspects of deep sea fishing, e.g. catching techniques, artificial lure presentation and preparation, bait presentation and preparation, reel and rod maintenance, boat preparation, assisting with boat launches, tagging of fish caught, successful measuring and releasing of catches, fish identification, boat retrieval etc. The volunteer will accompany the skipper on the boat.
